NEW MINI-BOOK SERIES!
The ULHS book committee has begun work on a series of self-published booklets detailing historic events and locations around town. Each booklet will be about 5-7 pages in length and each one will cover a specific topic in greater detail than we were able to write about in our recent history books. All are welcome to support and participate in the project. We hope to be able to offer the booklets for sale beginning this Brielle Day. Our next meeting will be Tuesday morning, May 18th at 10am, Boro Hall. For more information, please contact Ray.

Brielle - Saltworks to Suburb includes over 80 photographs, many of which have never been published before. This comprehensive history of Brielle from the time of the Lenape Indians to the present day is a compelling read. It is full of interesting facts and tidbits of information from long time residents. Learn about this area’s involvement in the Revolutionary War, local sea captains, the foundation of the town and its structure, famous people who visited here and even an unsolved murder! This year’s ULHS museum exhibit at the Curtis House on Brielle Day will include all new photographs and artifacts that are featured in the new book.

In honor of our publication, two weeks following our Brielle Day release, the society will be celebrating with a dinner at the historic Manasquan River Golf Club. This event held on Friday, September 25, 2009 will replace this year’s Harvest Home Supper. Click for your invitation and response card. Please respond by September 15th. We look forward to seeing you on Brielle Day when you pick up your book and at the Golf Club after you read it!

April 2009 - NEWS!!!!

Last week the book committee wrapped up work on the Society's latest book Brielle: Saltworks to Suburb. Published by the History Press of Charleston, SC this volume is a revamped edition of the society's first book Union Landing Revisited, published in 1989. Since the publication of the first book new photographs, archival materials, stories of Brielle and anecdotes have been presented to the society and the borough historian. It has been our effort over the last 4 years to compile an updated history of Brielle using this new unpublished material and building upon the story of Union Landing Revisited.
Brielle: Saltworks to Suburb is scheduled for release this coming Brielle Day, September 12, 2009. The new book is 160 pages in length and contains over 85 images, many of which have never been published before. The year 2009 also marks the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Borough of Brielle. The story of how the Borough of Brielle came to be, also not documented in any previous Brielle history book, is featured in the new history book.
Brielle: Saltworks to Suburb is priced at 21.99 plus tax and a pre-sale order form is included in this mailing.
